I am so excited to start the 2023-2024 school year at Lincoln Trail! I graduated from Eastern Illinois University in 2003; I then started my teaching career at South Side School in Champaign, Illinois. I taught fourth grade there for 11 years. This will be my 10th year teaching fourth grade at Lincoln Trail, and I am so thrilled for the new adventures and opportunities that await this upcoming year. In 2006, I graduated from Eastern again; this time with my Master's Degree in Administration.
I grew up in Fairbury, Illinois, and currently live in Mahomet with my husband and our three kids as well as our three chocolate labs. In my free time, I love running, biking, reading, baking, and watching football, basketball, and baseball. I am a huge fan of the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears, and am very hopeful that the Bears have a successful season!
I believe school should be a safe and warm environment for all students to learn. I try to make all students feel welcome and challenge them individually. I have high expectations for all students and will push them to succeed.
I incorporate the growth mindset philosophy when helping all students grow. Growth mindset is the set of ideals that we can always learn and our brains continue to grow throughout our entire lives. With this philosophy, there is no limit to what a person can achieve. The brain is constantly growing and changing. Since we create such a warm and risk free environment as a classroom community, the children know it's okay to make mistakes and taking risks is when learning and growing happens. I believe you can learn from your failures and that it is better to try and not be successful the first, second, and/or third time around, than not ever trying and learning from those mistakes at all. I try to teach the children the importance of perseverance and resilience in the face of all learning tasks and obstacles, with effort, perseverance, and resiliency, the students can make great gains and become very successful.
